COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Colorado Springs woman aboard the Disney Fantasy, a cruise ship that got caught in the outskirts of Hurricane Sandy over the weekend, shares some remarkable photos.

Kelsey Prescott said her and many of the passengers aboard the Disney cruise survived a 12-hour ordeal in the atrium of the ship during a period winds were close to 80 mph and waves were 50 feet high.

"These huge displays (in the gift shop), which happened to be on wheels were rolling, and all of the mugs were smashed," Prescott said. "We were seeing merchandise just everywhere, some of it was loaded up against the windows of the gift shop."

While there was significant damage to the inside of the ship, nobody on board was hurt.

"You really felt like you had to hold on to something to keep from rolling or falling to the other wall, it was that intense, the boat had tipped so far to the side," Prescott said.

Prescott said the cruise was scheduled to go up the eastern coast of Florida and said the captain likely caught up with the storm when it idled to about 6 mph.

"We stayed in the atrium till five in the morning, all night and we did not sleep, we were to scared," Prescott said.
