WETMORE, COLO. -- The Wetmore Fire, which has been burning in Custer County for almost a week now, is fully contained as of Monday afternoon.

Officials said the fire burned 1,998 acres and while fully contained, it is not out, meaning residents in the area may still see or smell smoke for a while.

The fire began Tuesday near the small town of Wetmore, which is south of Canon City and west of Pueblo. It burned 15 homes in Custer County, but nobody was hurt.

The fire caused 386 homes to be evacuated, but all have been allowed to return.

Custer County fire officials are now in charge of the fire.

Fire information phone lines will be put out of service Oct. 30.
