COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs Police Department will soon have a new tree.

Phelan Gardens is donating a tree to the department in honor of Matt Tyner, a Colorado Springs Police officer who died in a crash on Austin Bluffs Parkway in July while trying to conduct a traffic stop on his motorcycle.

Tyner had served the department since 1999 and had previously served in Kansas City.

The crash is still under investigation.

A tree planting and remembrance ceremony will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at the Police Operations Center on South Nevada Avenue.
