COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- More than two months after the Aurora Theater Shooting made international news, Colorado is in the spotlight again as it hosts the first presidential debate.

Millions of people are expected to watch Wednesday and a new commercial set to air right before the debate is hoping to catch the nation's attention.

The 30-second spot produced by the Mayors Against Illegal Guns starts with Aurora shooting victim Stephen Barton showing graphic scars from being shot in the face and the neck during the midnight showing of the Dark Knight Rises July 20th.

"I would be happy to have gun control for illegal guns, I just think it's not possible," Michelle Choi, a Colorado Springs resident said.  "If someone wants a gun illegally it's going to happen."

In the ad Barton said he was one of the lucky ones, as he pushes for a plan for gun control.

"[The commercial] is not gonna change how I feel about weapons and the fact that I own a few guns.  It's really a good sense of security and I don't feel unsecured," Camron Savell, a Colorado Springs resident said.

The video which has yet to air, has already gone viral and sparked debate over the use of an Aurora shooting victim and his persuasive effect.

"I think it's persuasive as far as it gets the point across but it's a debate that's been going on for a long time and will continue," Matt Hall, a Colorado Springs resident said.

Barton was just stopping in Aurora on a cross-country bike trip when he decided to go to the movies.

The recent college graduate is one of the 58 people injured and 12 killed by the gunman in the theater.
