Prison staff member killed in disturbance

CROWLEY, COLO. -- Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility officials said a staff member at the prison died during a disturbance involving a prisoner Monday morning.

According to prison officials another staff member, Sgt. Lori Gann, was seriously hurt during the incident.

They said the disturbance happened in the kitchen during early morning breakfast preparations.

Prisoner meals are now being delivered from other facilities while authorities work to secure the scene.

The prison is located in Crowley, which is about 45 miles east of Pueblo and has about 1,000 male inmates.
