9-year-old girl seriously injured in I-25 wreck

EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- Colorado State troopers are investigating a four-vehicle crash that seriously injured a 9-year-old girl.

It happened Sunday night on I-25, six miles south of Fountain.

Investigators said 46-year-old William Franklin of Colorado Springs was driving northbound when he failed to notice traffic on the freeway had come to a stop.

Troopers said his car hit an SUV, which then crashed into two other vehicles, injuring a child sitting in the backseat.

The 9-year-old girl was flown to a local hospital for treatment.

Franklin faces several charges including vehicular assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The others involved in the crash were not seriously hurt..
