AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. -- The Air Force Academy has announced pending charges against two Cadets in connection with sexual assault allegations.

Academy officials did not name the Cadets but said one faces sodomy, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sexual contact charges, and the other faces two counts of sodomy and aggravated sexual assault.

In the military justice system, formal charges cannot be filed until accused parties have an Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a preliminary hearing in civilian court. An investigating officer can then recommend formal charges, and a Commandant will decide whether to proceed.

Academy officials did not say what punishment the Cadets will face if found guilty and did not release any other information.
