COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- The Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management is offering free sandbags to homeowners who are at risk of flooding after the Waldo Canyon Fire.

According to KKTV-TV, volunteers will help fill sandbags on Saturday and residents are being encouraged to consult a contractor for advice on how to use them to protect their property.

On June 23, the wildfire exploded and destroyed nearly 350 homes, killing two people. The wildfire also scorched 29 square miles, creating a threat of erosion in the event of heavy rains.
