AURORA, COLO. (AP) -- Firefighters are looking into a witness report that someone with a gas can left an Aurora apartment building where a fire killed two people and injured 15 others.
The blaze that broke out Monday night forced some residents to jump from the four-story building as neighbors rushed to help.
The Denver Post reports a man dropped a boy, thought to be about 2, from the fourth floor and into the arms of 25-year-old Oterian Scott. The man then jumped into a canopy that neighbors moved next to the building.
Fire Capt. Allen Robnett said numerous people were rescued with ladders.
The apartment building is about a block away from theater shooting suspect James Holmes' apartment, but Robnett said there's nothing to indicate a connection with the shooting.
Many of the injured were treated at hospitals and released Tuesday.
