A new video on how to react during a workplace shooting is taking over the web and turning into a mantra for safety and survival.
The video funded by a $200,000 federal grant, is a renactment of a deadly workplace shooting and three key steps that will help you survive: run, hide, fight.
The 5-minute video produced by the city of Houston showcases a man dressed in all black walking into a work building and taking aim.
It's one example of an unpredicatble shooter event we should all be prepared for.
"The benefit is that it starts the conversation of what would I do if I was in a situation like that," Barbara Miller, spokeswoman for the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
The Colorado Springs Police Department tells people that in a matter of life or death you've got to do whatever you can to protect yourself.
"How to" videos like this are traditionally used for internal training.
"You don't want liability resting on you that someone maybe hid behind their desk instead of searching for a way out that's why we would never definitvely say this is what you should do in a situation," Miller said.
So while you can't plan for a shooting you can prepare to run, hide, and fight.
