GREELEY, COLO. (AP) -- Weld County Sheriff John Cooke says deputies could be disciplined after an inmate overpowered an officer, took his gun and escaped.
Cooke says Raul Alaniz was taken to a hospital on July 13 after he complained of having blood in his urine.
Cooke tells KUSA-TV the handcuffs were loose, allowing the inmate to escape and lead police on a chase.
The sheriff says a supervisor also made mistakes by not telling deputies how dangerous Alaniz was.
Alaniz was found dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a house he broke into near the hospital,
