EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- Damage to a power cable has caused an outage to all landline phones in Monument, Palmer Lake and Gleneagle areas Friday morning.

According to El Paso County Sheriff's deputies, a Century Link fiber optic cable was damaged. Residents could not dial 911 on landlines, but crews worked on a solution that will allow residents to dial 911 with calls being rerouted to the Monument Police Department.

Cell service was not impacted, so deputies encouraged residents to use their cell phones to dial 911 if there was an emergency.

The service has since been restored.

Emergencies can always be reported directly to a police or fire station.
