COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- Colorado Springs Police Chief Pete Carey says his department is still numb after the death of one of his officers.

On Tuesday, uniformed officers from around the state attended a public funeral service for Matthew Tyner at New Life Church.

Tyner died after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle last week as he was conducting traffic enforcement operations. The collision is under investigation.

Tyner joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1999 and served as a patrol officer, neighborhood resource officer and training academy instructor before becoming part of the motorcycle unit.

Carey says one of Tyner's favorite quotes was, "Don't be afraid of dying. Be afraid of not living."
