ST. GEORGE, UTAH -- A man wanted in connection with a Colorado Springs homicide committed suicide Tuesday morning after failing to steal a plane from a Utah airport.

Law enforcement officials said 40-year-old Brian Hedglin, who was wanted in connection with the death of 39-year-old Christina Cornejo, tried stealing a plane from the St. George Municipal Airport in Utah overnight but failed, crashing it into a terminal.

Hedglin then committed suicide at some point Tuesday, but authorities did not release a time.

Cornejo was found dead Friday in southwest Colorado Springs in what Colorado Springs Police officers later said was the city's 13th homicide of 2012.

Hedglin was a pilot for SkyWest, and it was a SkyWest plane involved in the crash that forced the airport to cancel flights and close nearby roads.

SkyWest released the following statement to FOX 13 in Salt Lake City:

"After the St. George Municipal Airport closed Monday night, a SkyWest Airlines aircraft was involved in a ground incident. There were no passengers onboard the CRJ200 as it was not in service at the time. The aircraft did sustain damage; the extent of the damage is currently being inspected by our maintenance and safety professionals. SkyWest is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

Passengers scheduled to fly in and out of St. George are being reaccommodated on other flights, as well as with ground transportation from nearby Cedar City, Utah until the airport is able to reopen.
