COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Mountain Shadows residents will be allowed to return to the neighborhood for a short time Sunday to assess damage to their homes and clean if necessary.
Colorado Springs city officials said they will have police officers set up beginning at 8 a.m., for people to check in, and they will be allowed in the neighborhood from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. During this time they can throw away old food in their refrigerators, clean ash from their houses if the house isn't damaged and make exterior repairs.
Officers will put the evacuation back in place at 6 p.m., and clear everybody out of the area.
The check-ins will be split up into two divisions - North and South. The North Division (Chuckwagon Road / South of Wolfe Ranch and South of Flying W Ranch Road / West of Centennial Boulevard) will check in at Eagle View Middle School at 1325 Vindicator Drive. The South Division (South of Chuckwagon Road / North of 30th Street / West of Centennial Boulevard) will check in at the Verizon building (old MCI facility) at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road.
