Firefighters in Colorado Springs are making significant progress as the Waldo Canyon Fire is now considered to be 30 percent contained, Jerry Marr with the U.S. Forest Service said on Saturday morning.

The week-long fire grew to be more than 18,000 acres at one time.

Marr said Saturday was a "test day" because of increased temperatures. While containment lines are being deepened, the weather will prove to be an issue today.

Fire officials said their teams remain "cautiously optimistic."

The number of homes burned is holding at 346, officials announced at the 8 a.m., press conference.

As for police, the 130 National Guard officers will be arriving from Denver to assist the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Another briefing is expected at 4 p.m., officials said.
