COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers said crews found a body beneath a home in the 2900 block of Rossmere Street Thursday.

The first reported death due to the Waldo Canyon Fire comes about 48 hours after the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history jumped Queens Canyon and made it over the foothills into the Mountain Shadows subdivision.

Crews said 346 homes were torched by the fire, which is burning about 16,750 acres. The fire is about 15 percent contained as of Thursday night.

Officials were hopeful everybody had safely evacuated the burned areas. They are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Many people who had been evacuated were allowed to return home Thursday, and more are expected to be allowed back Friday.
