COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- As the Waldo Canyon Fire spreads northeast into Colorado Springs, officials have issued more evacuations.

Everyone west of I-25 and north of Garden of the Gods is under a mandatory evacuation order, including neighborhoods on the south side of the Air Force Academy.

Mandatory evacuations for Cedar Heights, Cascade, Green Mountain Falls and Chipita Park are still in effect, bringing the total number of evacuees to 32,000.

I-25 is closed southbound from Interquest Parkway to Woodmen Road.

In addition to Cheyenne Mountain High School, an additional evacuation center has been set up at the Southeast YMCA.

The fire, which started Saturday in waldo canyon, quickly spread due to hot and dry conditions.

Fire crews had prevented the fire from burning any homes until Tuesday afternoon but have said an unknown number of homes in northwest Colorado Springs have since been burned.
