Starky's General Store in Lake George

PARK COUNTY, COLO. -- The Springer Fire is the third in Park County in just eight days.
Residents who live in and around Lake George said this fire season is already one of the worst they have ever seen.
"A lot of us our are just kind of scrambling for our belongings, and maybe our lives, you just do not know," Rebecca Starkweather said.
Starkweather and her family own Starky's General Store in Lake George, just miles away from the Springer Fire.
Starkweather kept her store open all night Sunday, and all day Monday to help evacuees.
"We have seen a lot of people coming through with all their belongings, as many as they could carry and horses," Starkweather said. "Neighbors that we have known for years that do not have a place to stay."
"We just grabbed our guns, and mainly clothes and pictures, that is all we really had time for," evacuee Tucker Kelly said.
Eighteen-year-old Kelly and his family were forced to leave their home in 11 Mile Canyon about an hour after the fire was first reported.
His parents, along with dozens of other evacuees are now just waiting for word on their homes, and when they might be allowed to return.
"This is the worst, I have never been evacuated before, so we have not had anything like this," Kelly said.
"It is the worst we have seen, but I know there have been years when it has been worse than this, they Hayman Fire years," Starkweather said.
She said if the fire drifts even a half mile closer to her store, she will be forced to leave. But until then she said she is planning on staying open.
"It really makes you look at the big picture, what is important, we have got friends standing in here who had to walk away from their homes," Starweather said.
If you would like to help the residents who have been evacuated, the U.S. Forest Service said the best thing to do is contact the Red Cross, who will give you information on what is needed.
