COLORADO -- Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered a statewide ban of private fireworks last week after dry weather and a slew of wildfires have consumed the state.

Until further notice, lighting fireworks is banned because of the hot and dry conditions across the state, but stores and roadside stands are still allowed to sell them. Commercial, professional and municipal fireworks displays are still allowed with written approval from the county sheriff.

According to KCNC-TV, police and firefighters will be out enforcing Hickenlooper's order. Violators can be fined up to $1,000 and be held liable for any damage they cause.

Pueblo city officials announced Monday their annual Riverwalk fireworks show on the 4th of July will go on as scheduled with extra fire personnel on duty for the display. The city has banned the sale of consumer fireworks.

Information from the Associated Press and KCNC-TV was used in this story.
