COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A young boy is home from the hospital after being attacked by a rottweiler over the weekend.

It happened Sunday afternoon outside a home on Monica Drive in Colorado Springs.

"The neighbor girl who is friends with my daughter, she came running in and said 'Conrad is getting attacked by a dog,'" Chad Skinner, the child's father, said.

The next thing Skinner can remember, he was holding his 3-year-old son Conrad, who was covered in blood.

"He had a pretty deep gash on his left side, so I covered that up with my hand and came up to the porch and sat down," Skinner said.

Conrad was rushed to the Memorial Central by ambulance, where he received dozens of stitches.

"He was asking questions, and one of those questions was 'Why did the doggie do that?'"

"Unfortunately you do not have an answer," Skinner said.

He said the attack came out of nowhere.

"They were walking back from the corner, and Madalyn saw a dog coming up, and it grabbed him by his butt, he then turned around and it bit his face," Skinner said.

"I was just pulling on him to try and get him away from the dog," Madalyn Skinner, Conrad's older sister, said.

Meanwhile, an onlooker who had just left a garage sale in the neighborhood stepped in to help.

"He bought dishes at the garage sale, and he jumped out of his car and began throwing the dishes at the dog," Madalyn said.

Then, after what seemed like an eternity, the dog ran away.

Now, looking back, Skinner said Madalyn and the good samaritan saved Conrad's life.

"Rather than running away, she stayed and put herself in danger to get Conrad away from the dog," he said.

"All I did was hold Conrad, I did not punch the dog or anything like the good samaritan, I think he is the main hero," Madalyn said.

The family has spoken with the dog's owner, who they said feels terrible about what happened.

They have agreed to cooperate with the Humane Society and are planning on putting the dog to sleep.
