FOUNTAIN, COLO. -- Fountain Police officers arrested a teenager Wednesday who is allegedly linked to more than 60 car break-ins since March.
The investigation began after several items were reported stolen from unlocked cars in March. Many of the items that were stolen - iPods and MP3 players - were pawned, and detectives were able to track that data to identify 19-year-old Joseph Spoerl as a suspect.
Officers also found thefts in unincorporated El Paso County and found some stolen items in Spoerl's home. They said additional arrests are expected.
Officers said they have a large amount of property to return to victims and said it will be a difficult process without proper ID or serial numbers. They will notify the public when the items are ready to be claimed.
Officers are reminding car owners to lock their cars, and to record all serial numbers for expensive property they own.
