Panhandlers attack woman in Acacia Park

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A woman was attacked in Acacia Park Monday evening.

It happened around 7:30 p.m.

The victim told police she had run to the YMCA Building east of the park and was contacted by panhandlers on North Tejon Street.

She said she and two panhandlers argued when she responded angrily to their request.

They then followed her into the park where they were joined by at least two others.

The victim said the argument escalated, and she was struck in the back of the head as she turned to run away.

During the scuffle a second suspect pulled out a pocket knife.

Colorado Springs Police officers were given descriptions of four suspects.

The first is a black man in his 60's, tall and thin, about 6'3" to 6'4" wearing a yellow shirt or jacket.

The second suspect, who is said to have started the argument, is described as a white woman, about 5'9" tall, in her 30's with blonde hair wearing a white shirt.

The man with the knife was described as a black man, middle aged, about 6' tall and thin.

The woman who allegedly assaulted the victim was Hispanic, in her 20's, heavy with short dark hair.

No arrests have been made at this time.
