Woman who died while hiking Incline was teacher

MANITOU SPRINGS, COLO. -- The woman who died of a heart attack while hiking the Manitou Incline Tuesday has been identified.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies said the 58-year-old woman was Vanessa McMichael, a Colorado Springs resident. Colorado Springs School District 11 officials said she was the Physical Education teacher at Midland International Elementary School.

According to the El Paso County Coroner, McMichael died of a cardiac-related incident.

A hiker reported someone had collapsed on the Incline around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday. Emergency crews responded but could not revive her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies have closed the investigation, saying her death was natural.
