Authorities believe body in river is car thief

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. (AP) -- Authorities believe they have found the body of a man who tried to escape after stealing a car.

The body was discovered in the Colorado River on Thursday morning near Rifle.

According to KREX-TV, New Castle Police believe the body may be the suspect who stole a vehicle and tried to escape by jumping into the Colorado River on April 16.

The man's identity has not yet been released
