COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Have an old cell phone or two sitting around your house?

Now you can donate them to a good cause.

All this week several stores and restaurants at The Promenade Shops at Briargate will be collecting old cell phones for the Cell Phones for Soldiers Program.

The phones will then be recycled, and the money will be used to buy calling cards and other communication tools for service men and women overseas.

"Cell Phones for Soldiers was started back in 2004 by a brother and sister in Massachusetts," Deanna Delarge with The Promenade Shops at Briargate said.

The pair decided to recycle the phones, and use the money to buy calling cards for our troops overseas.

Now eight years later, the organization is nationwide.

"When we came across the program we thought it would definitely be something Colorado Springs would respond to," Delarge said. "We had not seen anything else like it in the community."

If you are interested in donating a phone all you have to do is stop by one of nine participating retailers at The Promenade Shops at Briargate now through Saturday.

"Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory has been a long-standing supporter of our troops, and the military bases here locally," Assistant Manager Heather Chapman said.

Along with doing some good, for every cell phone you donate you will also be entered into a drawing to win a $50 giftcard to the shops.

"When people walk by and see the donation box their eyes light up because they are picturing that drawer at home with a couple cell phones in it, and you never know what to do with them," Delarge said.

One cell phone provides an hour of talk time to a soldier.

Drop-off locations include Color Me Mine, Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill, Loft, Maggie Moe's, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Ted's Montana Grill, Ultra Diamonds, and Yankee Candle.
