DENVER (AP) -- Walmart is going green in the Denver metro area.

The company announced Wednesday it is launching solar projects at six stores in Colorado.

According to the Denver Post, the projects are expected to generate nearly 3 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy, the equivalent of powering more than 225 homes.

Colorado currently ranks high among states for the total amount of solar power being produced and the company says the state has set ambitious goals that will ensure renewable power is available.

The company has also installed solar panels at stores in California and Arizona.
