GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. (AP) -- The Colorado State Patrol says a school bus driver in Grand Junction was ticketed on suspicion of driving drunk after a student on the bus told his mother he smelled alcohol.

State trooper Nate Reid told The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel that 54-year-old Gary Williams was issued a summons Tuesday on suspicion of impaired driving, child abuse and failure to stay in a designated lane.

Reid says the student sent his mother a text saying Williams was acting strange and smelled of alcohol. The student's mother called 911.

Williams was pulled over and placed into custody after he dropped off students at Orchard Mesa Middle School.

He was released.

The company that provides the district's bus service says Williams is suspended pending an investigation.
