Fire crews: Kid started apartment fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Fire officials said a kid has been charged with arson after investigators determined Thursday's fire at the Sunset Creek Apartments was intentionally set.

Fire crews responded to the fire in the 5400 block of North Nevada Avenue around 7:56 a.m. and put out a fire in two apartment units in about 10 minutes.

About 35 firefighters worked to put out the fire while residents in nearby units evacuated. Nobody was hurt.

Crews said damages totaled about $288,809, but they were able to save about $372,159 worth of items and structure.

They didn't release the name, age or gender of the kid but said he or she is between 11 and 17 years old.
