COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (AP) -- Army officers from Fort Carson are patrolling in downtown Colorado Springs on weekends, helping soldiers who've had too much to drink stay out of trouble and get a ride home.
KRDO-TV reported Wednesday the six-member patrols walk downtown on Friday and Saturday nights and other nights during long holiday weekends.
Post officials say between five and seven soldiers get rides home on a typical night.
Colorado Springs police say the patrols have reduced DUIs and other crimes and reduced the number of soldiers who become victims of crime.
