SAN LUIS, COLO. (AP) -- For the third time in the past four years, residents of San Luis are being told to boil their tap water after officials found more contamination.

Costilla County Public Health Director Vivian Gallegos says there have been no reports of any illness related to the E. coli contamination, which was reported Wednesday.

According to the Pueblo Chieftain, the warning set off a run on bottled water and forced the cancellation of school.

E. coli is a bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and, in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, the elderly and those with weak immune systems are the most susceptible.
