Family safe after early morning house fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Alarm bells alerted a family to an early morning house fire Friday.

Fire officials were called out to a home in the 4800 block of Chaparral Road near Powers Boulevard and Barnes Road just before 2:30 a.m. Friday.

They said an alarm in the basement alerted the family to trouble, and they were able to make it out of the house safely.

Officials on scene said the flames broke out in the basement of the home and burned the first floor.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
