Loose bison brought down by police

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers were kept busy Tuesday night after a bison escaped from a packing truck and wandered through the city.

Officers said a truck driver was unloading the animal at the G and C Packing Company in the 200 block of 21st Street when the bison escaped through a gap between the truck and ramp to a pen.

The bison took off running up 21st Street and eventually ended up in Thorndale Park at 24th Street and Uintah.

An officer brought down the animal with one shot and it was picked up by the packing company.

Officers said that bison can be unpredictable and dangerous when running loose.
