PUEBLO, COLO. -- Two women in southern Colorado are celebrating a major milestone.

Arta Booth and Marie Hobbs, both born in 1905, will turn 107 years old this month.

Surrounded by family and friends, the silver-haired friends celebrated their special birthday together Thursday at the Villa Pueblo Senior Living Community.

"They are both the sweetest," Myrna Garner, a rehabilitation aid at the Villa Pueblo Senior Living Community, said. "You just amaze at them and wonder, 'Will I ever get to be 107 years old?'"

Booth and Hobbs have spend most of their lives giving back to the Pueblo community. After completing college in West Virginia, Hobbs moved to Colorado where she worked at the Pueblo Race Track for 45 years, which may have played part in her nickname, "Speedy."

"I call her the racecar driver," Arta Bohman, Booth's 80-year-old daughter, said. "She pedals that wheelchair up and down the hallways 90 miles an hour. Of course, she's slowed down now that she's older."

Booth isn't one to slow down either. Raised on a small farm outside Rocky Ford, Booth moved to Pueblo after seventh grade. Once she graduated from Centennial High School in 1928, she went right to work.

"The day after she graduated she went down Main Street and got a job at Fisher Jewelry," Bohman said. "She worked there until she was 90."

Though they are both frail and soft spoken, the silver-haired friends stand strong on their secret to a long and healthy life.

"Be very active," Booth said.
