Drunk driver hits man on bike before arrest

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A drunk driver hit a bicyclist with his car before finally being arrested by Colorado Springs Police officers early Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said 21-year-old Jeffrey Givens from Colorado Springs was weaving between lanes when he hit a man on a bike at the intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and Hancock Avenue.

The bicyclist was on the road but against the curb riding east when Givens, who was also headed east on Pikes Peak, hit his rear wheel with the front of his car.

The bicyclist fell onto the street but was not seriously hurt.

Two witnesses followed Givens' car after the crash and were able to report his license plate to officers.

Officers arrested him a few minutes later at Pikes Peak and Academy Boulevard. Givens will be charged with DUI, reckless driving and hit-and-run.
