FOUNTAIN, COLO. -- A man was pulled from a pond in Fountain Saturday after he fell through ice while trying to reach his dog.

It happened around noon at the Fountain Creek Regional Park on Highway 85/87.

A witness called 911 after they saw the man fall into the frigid water.

Rescue divers responded to the park, and were able to pull the man from the water.

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.

The Fountain Fire Department said the water below the ice was so murkey, their divers had to feel their way along the bottom to find the man.

It is believed he was trying to reach his dog, who had wandered onto the ice.
