DURANGO, COLO. (AP) -- No charges will be filed against the person who shot and killed a Great Dane-Labrador mix dog that was attacking a neighbor's chickens.

Devon Pollack says her dog, Bula, died over the Thanksgiving weekend after her dog killed at least two chickens. The owner of the chickens, Bruce Bell told the Durango Herald in a story Thursday that dogs had killed chickens before and that a neighbor fired the fatal shot.

Pollack had left her dog with a friend while she flew to Michigan to visit family. Pollack is calling for changes to laws to correct what she says are inconsistencies between animal cruelty laws and those that allowed her dog to be legally killed.

La Plata County and Durango animal control director Jon Patla says such cases are unfortunate.
