COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- It's lights, animals and holiday spirit during the 21st anniversary of Electric Safari at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
The family tradition runs Dec. 16 through Jan. 1. (closed Christmas Eve)
Electric Safari features more than one million sparking lights, with light-themed clusters and animated light sculptures.
Santa and Mrs.. Claus will personally take your holiday wishes at the zoo through December 23.
Tuesday, Dec. 20 is a special night of Electric Safari as Santa will be taking wishes from deaf and hard of hearing children.
"We are expecting more than 100 students ages 5 to 21 from the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind," says Katie Borremans, Public Relations Manager with Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. "The kids will be able to share their wish list with Santa in American Sign Language."
For the second year, volunteers from Access 2 Sign language, a local interpreting agency, will be on hand to also interpret zookeeper talks and animal demonstrations
Different zookeeper talks and animal demonstrations are happening at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. nightly.
Electric Safari will run Dec. 16 - Jan. 1, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $8.25 for adults and $5.25 for children (ages 3-11).
Electric Safari is free for members
Discount tickets are available by being a "Secret Santa" to the animals.
"Just bring an item on their wish list and receive $2 off adult admission or $1 of child admission," says Borremans. "Each donated item is good for up to four discounts."
The wish list includes:
* cereal, sugar free (Kellogg's Raisin Bran, Cracklin' Oat Bran or Quaker Life cereals are preferred)
* peanut butter or jelly, sugar free or low sugar
* rawhides
* Kong or rope dog toys
* box of crayons or markers
* dried fruit (raisins, dates, figs, etc.)
* glue sticks for hot glue guns
* spices
* coconuts
* duct tape
* honey
* perfume
