DENVER (AP) -- Witnesses are backing claims by prosecutors that anti-tax advocate Douglas Bruce ran a sham charity up to avoid taxes.
On Monday, prosecutors called 11 witnesses to outline Bruce's ties to Active Citizens Together, a nonprofit organization he founded in 2001.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, witnesses said Bruce was in complete control of ACT, despite Bruce's past attempts to stay out of the limelight.
Testimony was continuing Tuesday.
Bruce has been charged with tax evasion, attempting to influence a public official, failing to file a tax return and filing a false tax return. Bruce says none of the issues raised by prosecutors on is illegal.
