ASPEN, COLO. (AP) -- The Aspen Skiing Co. is slashing applications for foreign workers at resorts because of the recession.
Ski company vice president Jim Laing says the company went from 400 foreign worker applications before the recession to just four this winter for jobs like maids and ski lift operators.
Four years ago, the company faced a worker shortage and had to bring in more foreign workers to fill the gap.
According to the Aspen Times, some foreign workers will still be needed to translate for foreign customers and other special needs. Those workers will include visas for students on break.
