COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Colorado Springs woman has been charged with first degree murder following the death of a 1-year-old girl.
In November, police were called to the Western Terrace Apartments on Zamora Circle for a toddler who was not breathing.
They said the child was taken to the hospital with abusive injuries.
Her caregivier, 27-year-old Melissa Alexander, was arrested on child abuse charges, but those have been changed to first degree murder after the toddler passed away Friday.
An autopsy was conducted over the weekend, confirming the death to be a homicide.
According to Alexander's arrest warrant, she was caring for her boyfriend's daughter while he was away on a 1-month deployment with the Army.
It also said Alexander admitted to pushing the child and dropping her because she was frustrated by her crying.
