PUEBLO COUNTY, COLO. -- Authorities said a tragic crash led to the death of a Pueblo woman who was hit by a car.
Around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to a woman who had just been hit by a car in the 27000 block of Preston Road.
Sheriff's deputies, the Rural Fire Department and American Medical Response all rushed to the scene of the accident and transported 63-year-old Maria Lopez to an area hospital where she later died.
An investigation revealed that Lopez had accidentally placed her car into neutral instead of park.
The vehicle started to roll and as she tried to get back into the car, authorities said she lost her footing and the vehicle ran her over.
