AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. (AP) -- A team of female firefighters from Colorado who call themselves the Fire Fembots has won first place in a national firefighters relay competition.

The Air Force Academy said Wednesday the team is made up of firefighters from the school and from the Colorado Springs fire departments.

They won the female relay in the World Firefighter Combat Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Saturday.

Team members are Elaine Perkins, Andrea Carraway and Jessica Condon from the Air Force Academy and Stacy Billapando and Lisa Smith from the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Smith was injured playing hockey in the week before the contest and couldn't compete. Two other team members combined to take her part of the relay while she cheered them on from the sidelines.
