Original story:
Schriever Air Force Base officials said a man who is reportedly being reprimanded by the military barricaded himself in a building on base with a gun Monday morning.
According to officials, a member of the 50th Security Forces Squadron locked himself in the deployment processing building around 10 a.m.
Officials evacuated the building except for law enforcement personnel, including Schriever security and El Paso County SWAT team members, who are still trying to negotiate with him. They did not say why he was in trouble, but Lt. Col. Harold Hoang said he faces legal action in civilian court as well as possible discharge from the Air Force.
"Our first responders are trained to handle situations such as this, and we are working with our community partners to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible," Col. James P. Ross, 50th Space Wing commander, said in a statement.
Officials are asking base members to avoid the west side of the base until further notice, though entry to the base has not changed.
Nobody has been hurt.
"The security of Schriever personnel and their families is paramount. We are taking every precaution to ensure their safety," Ross said.
