COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers arrested 38-year-old Steven Gutierrez Sunday night for strangling his 24-year-old wife and assaulting her with a padlock over the weekend.
Officers arrived to the couple's home in the 1600 block of North Murray Boulevard in the city around 9:59 a.m. Sunday and began the investigation.
They learned Gutierrez and his wife had been in a verbal argument Friday that escalated. Gutierrez punched her and began to strangle her. They said he hit her with a padlock attached to a bandana on Saturday.
Gutierrez also threatened the couple's 25-year-old roommate with a knife.
The wife was taken to a hospital with visible injuries to her neck but non life-threatening injuries.
Officers arrested Gutierrez around 7:06 p.m. Sunday.
Three other reported cases of a man strangling his domestic partner occurred earlier in the week in the city.
Officers arrested 22-year-old Jonathan Cason for punching and strangling his girlfriend early Friday morning. Tuesday night 33-year-old Trevor Bartosik was arrested for punching and strangling his girlfriend. One day earlier, 44-year-old Jerry Strong was arrested for strangling his girlfriend.
