MONUMENT, COLO. -- Two local Pop Warner football teams are just steps away from making history and a trip to Disney World.

The Monument Blizzard's Jr. Pee Wee Team and Jr. Midget Team are heading into round three of regional playoffs this weekend.

Nationals are in Orlando, Fla. this year and both teams have their eyes set on the prize.

The boys are only 8-13 years old, but already football runs in their blood.

"Football, I guess you could kind of say it's almost my life," Samuel Robert Hough, a 12-year-old and left tackle, said.

To most football is just a game, but for these boys it's something more.

"I'd trade anything to play football, except for of course family, family comes first," Hough said.

The Blizzard have been training hard all season long and are proof that hard work pays off.

"They are a talented group, and they have a great heart, and they are dedicated," Jason Helfrich, coach of Jr. Pee Wee, said. "We're out here late at night after everyone else is home and goes to bed," he added.

The players echoed their coach's attitude.

"We've been working pretty hard trying to get better each practice. I've been trying to work my butt off," Joshua Martin, a 9-year-old and running back, said.

Both the Jr. Pee Wee Team and the Jr. Midget Team are on the way to nationals, but there are a few obstacles left that must be tackled first.

"We are practicing for our game we have on Saturday against the only team that beat us," Caelen Helfrich, a 9-year-old quarterback, said.

Both teams must win Saturday to move on.

If the Jr. Pee Wee Team wins it's off to Dallas to play in the finals at the Cotton Bowl next weekend.

If they win there, they move onto nationals in Florida.

"It will mean so much to me to play on my birthday in the Cotton Bowl," Caelen Helfrich said.

The Jr. Midget Team just has to make it past the Texas Comets Saturday to earn their spot in nationals. If they win, they would have a bye the following week.

Last year the team lost in the second round of playoffs, and they said this year they are looking for redemption.

"It's definitely our redemption season, we're ready for redemption," Hough said.

Martin is excited for Saturday.

"I always try to do my best, put on a show out there. I always get nervous though, it's like my guts is boiling," Martin said.

Helfrich is excited for what could be.

"If we win I'll be cheering my butt off," Caelen Helfrich said.

But before there can be celebrations it's all business while these young players prepare for the chance of a lifetime.

"It means a lot to me, it's not just me, it's the whole team. We only go as far as the whole team wants to go, it's not just one person so I'm really glad I'm on this team. Not many people get this chance so we gotta do what it takes to get to Orlando," Martin said.

The Jr Pee Wee Team plays the Colorado Titans Saturday at 3 p.m., and the Jr. Midget Team takes on the Texas Comets at 5 p.m.
