DENVER (AP) -- A 19-year-old man is due in court for sentencing after he agreed to plead guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals for stabbing a puppy five times in the face.
The Denver District Attorney's Office says 19-year-old Matthew Weatherspoon is due in court on Wednesday to review a plea deal that calls for a sentence of probation.
Weatherspoon was accused of stabbing a 6-month-old American bulldog five times in its head and face and then putting it outside. A passerby found the dog and called police.
Weatherspoon said the dog attacked him and cornered him in his apartment. He says he had no choice but to defend himself.
