PUEBLO, COLO. -- Pueblo County Sheriff deputies have arrested former evidence custodian Tara Dame on a warrant requested by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Back in September Sheriff Kirk Taylor requested the help of the CBI after certain anomalies were found during an evidence audit in the sheriff's evidence department.

The audit revealed that cash and prescription drugs were missing. 

Prior to the audit, arrest documents state Adame was put on administrative leave due to continued personal use of the county-issued Purchasing Card (P-Card) and writing a check with insufficient funds.

Adame admitted to personal use of the P-Card and stated she did not think it was wrong as long as the county was reimbursed.

Laurie Kilpatrick of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office said, "We didn't know that it had gone as far as it did until the investigation with CBI, so given more time, yes, more things could have come up missing."

According to the affidavit, almost 200 pain pills from various prescriptions, and more than $10,000 had disappeared.

Adame, who no longer works for the sheriff's office, was arrested on charges of theft, computer crime and tampering with evidence, among other charges. 

In a release from the sheriff's office, Taylor said he wished to thank the CBI for their help in bringing an end to the probe.

He said they now have to let the District Attorney and the courts "do their work."
