COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The City of Colorado Springs wants to let drivers know that they are out on the streets trying to clear affected areas.
The city is focusing their efforts on primary roads and multi-lane roads that handle large volumes of traffic.
In addition to plowing, they are also putting down treatments meant to combat icy road conditions.
They also want to remind drivers that it can take up to six hours or more to clear primary roads during a large snow event, and they ask that people be patient and delay trips that are not completely necessary.
Once primary routes have been cleared, crews will move on to secondary routes which include collector streets and school access.
Current city policy states that crews will not respond to residential streets until at least 6 inches of snow has accumulated, primary and secondary routes have been cleared and snow has stopped falling.
As for property owners, the city is also reminding people that residents are responsible for snow and ice maintenance on sidewalks, driveways, and private parking lots.
You have 24 hours after the snow stops falling to clean up.
