COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Another winter storm is on its way exactly one week after the first significant snow fell across southern Colorado.

Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. A very weak front will pass in the morning, and that will hold temperatures a bit from where they were on Monday. Across the mountains, snow increases from the north by the afternoon accompanied by strong winds and very cold temperatures.

The main storm system drastically intensifies as it reaches Colorado Tuesday evening, and that will enhance snowfall in the mountains. The northern plains including Denver will see clouds, winds, and snow increase by the evening, but southern Colorado will not experience the changes until about midnight.

As soon as the front moves through (around midnight), expect dangerously high northerly winds to quickly engulf the area. The strongest winds will stay over the Palmer Divide, where blinding snow will lead to a good possibility of blizzard conditions and white-outs. Those driving to Denver in the morning will have a very difficult time over Monument Hill.

For Colorado Springs, Pueblo and the rest of the plains, northerly winds will hamper strong snowfall accumulations. However, there will be a short window for accumulating snow, and the strong winds will lead to poor visibilities, especially near the foothills. Accumulating snow will not be the problem, blowing snow will be.

The snowstorm moves out just as fast as it arrived. Skies begin to clear late in the morning, and by the afternoon, we are left with cold and windy weather. It is going to stay blustery, and if skies clear and winds die down enough, Wednesday night may see the coldest temperatures of the season thus far.
